Roger Bain
Investigator/Trainer
Roger has worked in the mining industry for over 30 years, working firstly as a mining engineer, and then, since 1999, in various OHS roles.
He has had experience in coal, gold, silver, mineral sands, diamonds, nickel, cobalt, and copper projects in eight countries (New Zealand, Australia, Zambia, Ghana, Mozambique, Madagascar, DRC, & Kazakhstan). These projects have mainly been with large multi-national operators, and also some small single-mine companies. In that time, he has been exposed to a wide variety of health & safety management systems.
His OHS experience has seen him working in roles from Superintendent to Regional Director. Many of these roles have seen him in a position to mentor and help develop the skills of OHS professionals in developing countries.
In these roles, Roger developed and implemented safety management systems, formal risk assessment and auditing certification programs, hazardous substances, change management, LOTO, emergency response, road traffic safety management, and instituted behavioural–based safety training and mentoring.
Roger has led fatal or serious incident investigations for several large organisations and has been using ICAM since 2006.
Roger’s eye for detail, and his wealth of practical experience has given him the ability to look past the obvious - attributes that makes his move into specialising in incident investigation a natural fit.
