Drawing on over 20+ years of engineering and health and safety experience in mining, engineering, oil and gas, water treatment and regulatory enforcement, Damian brings to the table a unique perspective on incident causation in heavy industry. Starting his career as a chemical engineer / metallurgist in base metals and coal across Australia and PNG, Damian eventually moved into pump engineering working on projects from Australia to Africa and Europe.
With over a decade of experience as a Queensland mining inspector, Damian led many large-scale investigations across many sites. However, he was also proactively involved in incident prevention through audits and education about hazard controls from small to large operations. This passion was transferred to corporate level in the oil and gas industry during his time as Principal Health and Safety Advisor for a significant Australian-based oil and gas producer.
He is a passionate educator and professional who draws on experience across numerous operations from small to multinational companies in multiple industries. His commitment is to the continued education of front-line supervision and workers in prevention of incidents and to management teams to the continued improvement and commitment in supporting this endeavour.
